These high-strength engineered barrier blocks are cast from concrete which does not contain any recycled materials and they are designed to provide a solution for a huge variety of projects including block wall flood defence, material storage bays, retaining walls, and can also be used as fire break walls and counterweights or kentledge.

They can be used to solve a wide range of problems in the construction, environmental, recycling and agricultural industry sectors as well as for infrastructure projects carried out by local councils and large commercial organisations.

In addition, because the blocks do not contain anything other than high quality, locally sourced aggregates and Portland Cement, you can be assured that your investment will last a number of years.

Handling Details

Each block has its own lifting pin cast into it so that it can be easily placed using the specially designed lifting clutch along with the appropriate hook and chain on standard site lifting machinery. Once in place they are difficult to move by unauthorised persons without the correct equipment so providing additional security.

  Very good customer service, competitive price and good communications. Delivery driver was safety conscience, careful and efficient.
When I was uncontactable for the 2nd delivery and driver needed access to the sluice through security gates, Maltaward contacted our "national customer contact centre" who provided a contact number and the delivery was made. Are interlocking concrete blocks available in different sizes?

Yes. Maltaward supplies interlocking concrete blocks in a range of sizes and shapes, including flat-top, full, half and specialist block options. The blocks can be used in different configurations depending on the required wall height, layout and application.

Block weights range from 540kg up to 2400kg, with the standard LG8 block measuring 1600mm x 800mm x 800mm and weighing 2400kg.

How high can interlocking concrete blocks be stacked?

Maltaward’s interlocking concrete blocks can be stacked up to 4.8m high, which is six courses of the standard LG8 block. The blocks lock into place using cast-in lugs, so no mortar is required between courses.

For walls above 3m, or where ground conditions, loading or site exposure may affect stability, a structural review is recommended. Maltaward can also supply LG Spreader blocks to widen the base where required, with flat-top variants available for a level finish on the top course.

Do interlocking concrete blocks need mortar or foundations?

Interlocking concrete blocks are designed to stack securely together without mortar. In many applications, they can be installed on a suitable level and stable surface without permanent foundations, making them quicker to install than cast-in-situ concrete structures.

The right base will depend on the wall height, ground conditions and intended use, so Maltaward can advise on the most suitable setup for your project.

Can interlocking concrete blocks be moved and reused?

Yes. One of the main advantages of interlocking concrete blocks is that they can be moved, reused and reconfigured as site requirements change. Each block has a lifting pin cast into the top, allowing it to be moved with the correct lifting clutch and suitable equipment, such as a HIAB crane or site telehandler.

This means a wall or storage bay can be dismantled, relocated and rebuilt in a different layout, making the blocks a flexible option for temporary works, changing site layouts and repeat project use.

How are interlocking concrete blocks delivered and installed?

Interlocking concrete blocks are delivered using suitable heavy transport and can be positioned on site using appropriate lifting equipment, such as a HIAB crane, telehandler or specialist lifting clutch depending on access and site requirements.
